bio
kathy gatto is an award-winning editor and dedicated artist, with over a decade of experience in the entertainment industry,
including demonstrated success in commercials, music videos, television and motion pictures.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from film school at Hunter College, she began her career at HBO as an assistant editor,
working among some of the most talented people in television and film.
While her roots are in TV, her passion is in film, particularly documentary film editing.
She has been recognized as an outstanding editor in both short form and long form,
and her work has garnered a variety of PromaxBDA and CTAM Mark awards. Kathy's commercial work has included
such industry titans as Nike, Microsoft and NASDAQ. Additionally, she counts among her successes several programs
in permanent installation at museums around the U.S., including Tribute - the World Trade Center Museum,The Smithsonian Institute,
Federal Hall and the World War II Museum.
Her particular gift is balancing story-telling with the technique of filmmaking.
She often utilizes unexpected moments captured on camera that would normally end up on the cutting room floor,
to further illustrate the richness of the story unfolding in front of and behind the camera.
Currently, she has several short documentaries (The Bowler and Stray Dawg,
both directed by Sean Dunne) on the film festival circuit.
Outside of the edit room, she has a penchant for interior design, art collecting and traveling with her family.
